Steve McLain, Coach

Steve McLain has coached girls’ basketball for the past 5 years, beginning with his daughter’s recreation league teams and for the last 2 years with a successful independent team.  Steve grew up in central Virginia and was a key contributor for Petersburg High School, one of the most prominent and successful high school basketball programs in the state of Virginia, as well as being the alma mater of Sixers’ legend Moses Malone.  His senior year he helped the Crimson Wave to a record of 25-1, as well as a number 1 state ranking throughout the season.

He is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia and models his philosophy on the Five Pillars made famous by U.Va Coach Tony Bennett: Passion, Unity, Servanthood, Humility and Thankfulness.  This philosophy drives his desire to coach, as well as his firm belief that sports have the power to be a transformational experience in the lives of young women.

Steve lives in Lower Merion with his son, a senior at Lower Merion High School, his 7th grade daughter and wife of 20 years.
